Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated yesterday that the European Union does not need to take up arms to combat the Russian threat. But the EU should be more aware that it should do more and that it should fight in the diplomatic and economic frontline. This was stated by the President of Ukraine in an interview for world broadcasters.
“Europeans can fight using sanctions – they have now started with sanctions. They are fighting using the blockade for the economy and Russian business, they are fighting using diplomacy. European leaders must start fighting,”
said the President, who is aware that the accession of Ukraine to the European Union is a war, but indicates
“You do not need to take a weapon. Russia does not support Ukraine as part of the Western world, they see us as part of post-Soviet life or Soviet life. And this is a war.”
At the EU summit on Thursday evening, Zelensky continued to take a firm line against Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán. Zelensky criticised Orban’s close ties with Putin and urged him to take a stand.
‘Viktor, decide for yourself whose side you are on.’
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, European leaders must show a willingness (or readiness) to fight Russia. According to him, this is necessary in order not to end up in the current situation in Ukraine, where one could not imagine becoming the victim of a large-scale invasion by a neighbouring country. He warns
“You will just wake up one morning and understand what we understood – the war started.”
“Europe must do everything for Russia not to feel like the ruler of the world, it is possible today.”
he said.
